Man United 'set sights' on Real Madrid midfielder viewed as Baleba alternative

According to reports, Manchester United has shifted their focus to attempting to sign a midfield player from Real Madrid.

During the summer transfer window, the Red Devils already spent more than £200 million to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.

But with United being heavily linked to Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion, Ruben Amorim is still keen to bolster his team, especially in central midfield.

However, as of right now, the Seagulls have no plans to give in to the pressure to cash in on one of their most valuable assets, which they estimate to be worth at least £100 million.

Because of this, United is now forced to think of other options if they want to increase their engine-room contingent before September 1.

The Premier League powerhouses are willing to try to work out a deal for Eduardo Camavinga, according to Fichajes.

Camavinga has made 180 appearances across all competitions since moving to the Bernabeu in 2021, tallying four goals and ten assists.

Nevertheless, the France international has occasionally filled in at left-back and missed extended periods of play due to injury, most recently in 2024–2025.

It is unclear if Camavinga will be the starting player upon his return because he is currently out and missed Xabi Alonso’s La Liga debut on Tuesday.

According to reports, United is considering making a €80 million (£69.26 million) offer for the 22-year-old.

Real Madrid is now likely to turn down such an offer, especially since United might have paid more for the less-experienced Baleba if Brighton’s valuation had been lower.

Getting Camavinga’s services would feel more important to this United team even with the addition of Mbeumo, Cunha, and Sesko.

Bruno Fernandes needs a younger, more aggressive player beside him instead of the aging Casemiro if he is to be used in a more significant role.

Even though it seems necessary to bring in a new player for the engine room, getting someone with Camavinga’s age, experience, and future potential might be just as advantageous as enhancing the attack.
