Vitinha, Neves to be reunited in midfield: Predicted Portugal XI vs. Spain

For Sunday night’s UEFA Nations League final matchup against Spain, Roberto Martinez is expected to make several changes to his starting lineup.

The Portugal manager will be the first to admit that he made a mistake with his starting lineup in Wednesday night’s semi-final victory over Germany, as a triple substitution turned the tide of the match in their favor.

Francisco Conceicao’s brilliant moment tied the score, and after his impact here at the Allianz Arena in midweek, the Juventus winger will feel unfairly left out if he is not included in the starting lineup.

Following their Champions League victory at this stadium last weekend, Martinez might bring Paris Saint-Germain teammates Vitinha and Joao Neves back together in midfield for the Munich final.

Martinez preferred Al-Hilal’sRubenNeves in the center of midfield, and Vitinha was only used as a substitute against Germany. Neves started as a right-back.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to earn his 221st cap for Portugal and silenced many of his detractors with that goal in the semi-final, is one player who is certain to start.

Nuno Mendes, another member of Portugal’s PSG team who had a week of success in Munich, set up the goal, but Goncalo Ramos will likely be benched again because of his limited playing time in Paris.

The only player without a cap in the team, Rodrigo Mora, was not used on Wednesday after replacing the injured Geovany Quenda in the March roster.

Portugal’s potential starting lineup:

Costa; J. Neves, Vitinha, Bernardo; Conceicao, Ronaldo, Fernandes; Dalot, Dias, Inacio, Mendes
