News about Man City’s transfer: Citizens make a “major” move in their pursuit of Gianluigi Donnarumma, but Ederson impacts the deal

Donnarumma, Ederson and Trafford: Who will be Man City's number one this season?

Gianluigi Donnarumma, the goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain, is said to have reached a personal agreement with Manchester City in advance of a possible transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

After Lucas Chevalier joined from Lille, Donnarumma lost his position as PSG’s number one, and the Italy international is expected to depart the Champions League winners before the transfer window closes.

The Red Devils are reportedly pursuing a deal for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but Manchester United has reportedly expressed interest in the Italian.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma has reached a personal agreement with Man City, who have recently become the clear favorite for the 26-year-old.

According to Romano, Man City and PSG are negotiating a transfer, with a price tag of about €50 million (£43.3 million) anticipated.
Although Donnarumma was excellent for PSG in the previous season, recording 17 clean sheets in 47 games, Luis Enrique, the head coach of the Paris team, desired to have a different goalkeeper going forward.

The goalkeeper, who is rumored to be eager to join the Premier League, seemed to wave goodbye to the PSG supporters after the team’s 1-0 Ligue 1 victory over Angers on Friday night.

A move to Man City, though, is still dependent on Ederson, who hasn’t played for the Citizens this season; James Trafford is currently in goal.

Due to illness, Ederson missed the first weekend of the new season’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers and was then used as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur.
When asked about his goalkeeping situation following Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham, Man City head coach Pep Guardiola was evasive.

Manchester City's Ederson on June 18, 2025.

After making a deadly error during the home defeat, Trafford—who rejoined the team from Burnley this summer—may lose his spot to Donnarumma, and Ederson may move on.

“This week, we’ll see. We’ll see this week,” Guardiola said when asked about what the future could hold for Ederson and Trafford.

Man City’s long-term number one Ederson is the target of Galatasaray, who are vying for the Brazilian’s services before the transfer window closes.

Galatasaray has only indicated a willingness to pay €10 million (£8.7 million) for Ederson thus far, while Man City is reportedly seeking €25 million (£21.7 million).

It is currently anticipated that Ederson will depart the Etihad Stadium in pursuit of new opportunities, Trafford will be the number two, and Donnarumma will arrive as Man City’s number one.
