Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, claims that the team will not give him the same amount of time that Mikel Arteta had to turn things around at Arsenal.
In December 2019, Spaniard Arteta took over as manager of Arsenal, succeeding Unai Emery, and has since turned the Gunners into consistent contenders for the championship.
The only trophy Arteta has won since his appointment is the 2020 FA Cup, which he won in his debut season -and he needed three seasons to get the team back into the Champions League.
“I will not have the time the Arteta had,” said Amorim.
However Amorim said he could draw inspiration from the manner in which Arteta dealt with a number of issues during his early days at Arsenal.
“I feel that [Arsenal] is a different club,” continued Amorim.
“It is a different club, in that aspect, the way how Arteta dealt with that [the issues] is an inspiration for everybody.”
On Sunday (16:30 GMT), Arsenal will travel to Old Trafford in the Premier League to play a United team that is missing several important players, including Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Lisandro Martinez, who have been out for a long time.
Amorim expressed optimism that Amad Diallo might return before the season ended, but he said it was unlikely that any other injured players would play on Sunday.
“I think it is just Amad [who is out long-term],” said Amorim.
“Even Amad, we will see the end of the last month [of the season].
“I have the hope to have Amad before, we will see.
“Kobbie [Mainoo] can return. [Harry] Maguire, we have to be careful, Manuel [Ugarte] will return, and I think Mason [Mount] and Luke Shaw can return also.”
In the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match, Arsenal defeated PSV Eindhoven 7-1 on Tuesday, while United managed to draw 1-1 away at Real Sociedad two days later.
Amorim claims that even though the Europa League is Europe’s secondary league, participation in it has a greater effect on Premier League performance than the Champions League.
“In the beginning people talked about our rotation in Europe. We were changing all the time and it is because of this,” said Amorim.
“Europa is so much harder than Champions League. Not the games, but the recovery to play Premier League on the weekend. We have to deal with that.”
