In Sunday’s Premier League match at Old Trafford, Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Manchester United 1-0 thanks to a spectacular free kick from Pablo Sarabia in the second half.
The visitors, who have now won all five of their league games, had a very successful afternoon thanks to the Spaniard’s heroics in the 77th minute, while Ruben Amorim’s team had yet another incredibly poor league match.
Man United is now in 14th place in the Premier League standings, tied with Wolves in 15th place, after losing two of their last three league games.
The Red Devils’ primary focus is on the Europa League because they cannot be relegated this season and are not in the running for a spot in Europe. However, this was the 20-time English champions’ 15th league loss of the season.
For the first time in their history, Wolves defeated Man United in the Premier League, and it was the first league double over the Red Devils since the 1979–80 season.
As promised, Amorim made changes to his team, but the Red Devils’ struggles in the latter third of the field were once again widely visible during the dull match at Old Trafford.
Positives included Harry Amass’s outstanding play as a left-sided wing-back and rookie Tyler Fredricson’s man-of-the-match display; Old Trafford’s future is bright, but the present is not so great.
After winning four straight league games going into the match, Wolves are now tied for first place with a Manchester United team that is enduring their worst Premier League season ever.
Man United’s season is either Europa League or bust, and as Amorim will keep rotating his best players to keep them healthy for European action, more league suffering is probably in store before the season ends.
