According to reports, Liverpool is ready to compete with a number of Premier League teams for Alexander Isak, a striker for Newcastle United, during the summer transfer window.
After the Reds defeated Newcastle 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday, they moved up to 13 points clear of second-place Arsenal in the league.
Federico Chiesa is the only player Boss Arne Slot has added to his team for 2024–25, but the Italian has only played in three Premier League games thus far.
However, given that Mohamed Salah’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and is expected to depart the team unless an extension can be negotiated, the Dutch manager might have to look into the transfer market in the summer.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool is eager to bolster their offensive ranks and will compete with other Premier League teams for the £120 million Isak from Newcastle.
Are Isak and Salah able to work together in the same XI?
The Reds’ forward line could suffer greatly if they lose Salah for nothing. The Egyptian has either scored or assisted 42 of his team’s 66 Premier League goals.
Isak would probably take Diogo Jota’s place in the starting lineup, but his 19 Premier League goals this season demonstrate his ability to score goals like Salah. Slot would need to sign an attacker to match the winger’s output.
Slot explains that his center-forward needs to “be a facilitator” because Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool right now, has struggled to establish himself as a starter in the starting lineup.
Although he might need to practice dropping deeper into midfield to give Salah the room he needs to run in behind opposing defenses, Isak is not only a superb finisher but also skilled at connecting with teammates in tight spaces.
Liverpool’s big summer
The Reds will need to make a sizable investment in their backline this summer if both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk leave before the end of the current campaign.
Salah’s possible departure and the departure of Luis Diaz and Nunez, who have both been heavily linked to moves away from Anfield, would force Slot to reorganize his offensive strategy.
It would be surprising if the Liverpool manager did not add a fifth option to the midfield group that he has so far shown faith in, which consists of Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister.
Even though Slot might win a lot of trophies with the Reds in 2024–25, 2025–26 might turn out to be far more difficult than his debut season.
