As Jarell Quansah’s departure draws nearer, Liverpool is rumored to make a “significant” offer to Crystal Palace for center-back Marc Guehi.
Some of the most well-publicized transactions of the summer thus far have involved Bayer Leverkusen and the Premier League winners, and this pattern is expected to continue in the days ahead.
Florian Wirtz, who flew in for his medical on Thursday, is soon to sign a club-record contract with Liverpool, who have brought Jeremie Frimpong back to England from the BayArena.
Quansah, who would take Jonathan Tah’s place after the latter moved to Bayern Munich, is now anticipated to be taken by the German powerhouses.
The defender is expected to sign a long-term contract with the 2023–24 Bundesliga Invincibles after both Quansah and Liverpool reportedly approved his transfer.
Liverpool in ‘best position’ to strike Guehi deal
Arne Slot may have to deal with more defensive changes than just Quansah’s departure because Ibrahima Konate is nearing the end of his contract and there hasn’t been much movement on a renewal.
The hierarchy must prepare backup plans at the back in case of multiple departures, as longtime employee Joe Gomez has been predicted to leave in search of regular minutes elsewhere.
The Telegraph claims that the English champions are now in the “best position” to make a sizable bid for England international Guehi, with whom they have been linked for a long time.
Since moving from Stamford Bridge to Selhurst Park, the former Chelsea star has developed into one of the top center-flankers in the league; however, his contract expires in the summer of 2026.
According to the report, Palace will accept reasonable bids this summer in the hopes of recovering a sizable fee because there is no chance that Guehi will extend his contract with the FA Cup winners.
Even though Liverpool is the front-runner for the 24-year-old, they will probably still need to thwart the approaches of two other Champions League teams in order to complete a deal.
Guehi has long been admired by Newcastle United, and Chelsea, his former team, has been keeping tabs on his development since approving his departure in 2021.
In January, Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made a £70 million offer to Palace for Guehi, which included £55 million and £15 million in add-ons. However, the Eagles turned down the offer.
During the 2024–25 season, Guehi scored three goals and provided two assists in 34 Premier League games for Palace, for a total of eight goals and four assists from 155 games.
