Kylian Mbappe’s fitness status has been updated by Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso ahead of Wednesday’s Club World Cup matchup with Al-Hilal.
Alonso, who recently succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s manager, is about to start his tenure.
There will be a lot of attention on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen’s possible debuts, but it’s unclear if Mbappe will play alongside them at Hard Rock Stadium.
Mario Cortegana of The Athletic reports that the France international missed Tuesday’s practice due to a fever.
As a result, Mbappe is currently fighting to demonstrate his fitness in time for Real Madrid’s Club World Cup opener.
During the pregame press conference on Tuesday, Alonso acknowledged that a decision regarding Mbappe’s availability will be made at the last minute.
Alonso stated: “Kylian felt a little better this morning, but not enough,” according to Football Espana.
“It was best that he didn’t train because it’s really hot. However, we’ll hold off until the very last minute. We’ll make a decision tomorrow morning.
Mbappe will be in a confident mood after winning the Pichichi and European Golden Shoe in the 2024–25 season with 31 goals in 34 La Liga games, so Real Madrid will be desperate to have him available.
Alonso gave an injury update on Mbappe as well as Eduardo Camavinga and Antonio Rudiger, who are recuperating from adductor and knee issues.
Alonso remarked, “Rüdiger is making great progress and will be the first to return. I don’t know if he’ll be called up tomorrow, but he put in a tremendous effort this season.”
“It will take a little longer for the others. Camavinga needs time, but he is also getting better quickly.
Due to injuries, Real Madrid is unable to use Endrick, Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Eder Militao, or Dani Carvajal.
