Florian Wirtz is someone Jeremie Frimpong knows better than most, and he thinks the Premier League will be dominated by his new Liverpool recruit.
The close friends will remain teammates as Wirtz joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, following in Frimpong’s footsteps.
The two had four and a half successful seasons together at the Bundesliga team, and Frimpong is thrilled about the chance to reunite with Wirtz as new players for the Premier League winners.
Frimpong told Sky Sports, “Just expect a winner,” in response to a question about what Liverpool fans can anticipate from the Germany playmaker. He’s a really, really unique player, and he works really hard, in my opinion. I don’t need to say much more than to watch him; the league will adore him!
“Flo, he enjoys pressure and doesn’t break under it. He is a man who enjoys being under pressure. Flo is one of those guys who, just by watching him play, makes you love football. I feel like when you’re on the field, you forget about everything else and just enjoy playing the game.
“He’s playing with Liverpool players [as well], so he’s going to be flawless.” He will be alright.
Frimpong and Wirtz were important players for Leverkusen, who went undefeated during the 2023–24 domestic season and won both the league and the cup.
The Netherlands international is also aiming to win more trophies at Anfield.
“I play for trophies, so I want to win trophies,” he continued. I want to win, but I obviously don’t want to talk too much and say things like, “We’re going to win that, that, and that.” For that reason, I play football.
