Germany’s sporting director provides Liverpool with an update on Florian Wirtz’s transfer.

Rudi Voller, Germany’s sporting director, stated that Florian Wirtz’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool might take “a while.”

The 22-year-old ended the season with 15 goals and 16 assists across all competitions, but Liverpool and Leverkusen have been unable to come to an agreement.

Leverkusen is demanding a deal worth more than £120 million after the Premier League champions’ £109 million offer was turned down.

Both Manchester City and Bayern Munich have shown a great desire to sign Wirtz, but Voller, who currently works for the German Football Association (DFB), asserts that the midfield player is eager to join Arne Slot’s team.

His desire to visit Liverpool is well known. Voller, who has served as Leverkusen’s sporting director twice, told DAZN, “I am aware that the clubs are negotiating with one another.”

Voller further added: ‘It’s often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached.

‘Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through.

‘Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen but also for the national team. That’s why he costs a few euros more.’

Per Mertescker, a former defender for Germany and Arsenal, told ZDF that Liverpool’s attempt to sign Wirtz was a “big deal.”

“One of Germany’s greatest talents has the attention of everyone on the island,” Mertescker stated.

“Getting him is a huge deal, and Liverpool is really getting ready again.”
