In what ended up being the summer transfer drama in Serie A, Inter publicly courted the 27-year-old for a number of weeks.
According to reports, the Nerazzurri’s offer for Lookman reached as high as about €45 million.
La Dea has stated that they are not interested in selling the former Fulham and Leicester City forward, though.
As a result, Atalanta never presented Inter with a counteroffer upon which to base any further bids.
Lookman made a very public attempt to pressure his club in the interim. The Nigerian made a public transfer request, removed all references to Atalanta from his social media accounts, and skipped training for a few weeks.
After it became apparent that Inter would not be signing the 27-year-old, Lookman eventually resumed training for Atalanta.
But up until now, the forward has only been training. He is no longer a member of coach Ivan Juric’s team.
Before the transfer window closes, Lookman’s agents are working to find a solution for the player.
SportItalia claims that Atalanta will not part with Lookman for less than €55 million.
The Nigerian international will therefore continue to play for La Dea’s team if no such offer is made before the deadline.
However, that does not guarantee that Lookman will play.
As things stand, La Dea might just keep the 27-year-old on their books without using him, according to SportItalia.
Given how strained the relationship has become as a result of Lookman’s antics during the transfer drama, the parties still have a long way to go.
