According to reports, Chelsea is considering making another declaration of intent during the summer transfer window by making an offer for a Barcelona player.
The Premier League powerhouses defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final in the United States on Sunday night, securing their title as world champions.
In an effort to assemble a team better suited to Enzo Maresca’s requirements, the Blues have also acquired Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro, who scored three goals in the semifinals and final.
There is a claim that Maresca doesn’t need any more new players before 2025–2026, depending on which players are traded out between now and the beginning of September.
Fichajes claims that Chelsea has identified Fermin Lopez as a possible addition, provided that they can reach an agreement with Barcelona.
According to the report, they are willing to pay more than €50 million (£43.4 million) to win the La Masia graduate.
Since the versatile midfielder has established himself as a regular member of the team, Barcelona has no plans to cash in on the 22-year-old at this time.
Hansi Flick will have been impressed by the Spain international’s eight goals and ten assists from 46 appearances across all competitions last season.
Fermin will be seen as an important member of a team that is still struggling financially because of his ability to play in central midfield, the number 10 position, and the left flank.
Chelsea, however, believes that Barcelona officials might be persuaded to cash in on a domestic talent in order to significantly advance their compliance with the applicable financial regulations.
Fermin, who began his youth career at Barcelona in 2016, feels a connection to the La Liga winners and hopes to stay with them for the rest of his career.
However, if he stays a backup player, his representatives are reportedly willing to entertain any suggestions that are presented to them.
In 2024–25, he only made 19 of his 46 appearances from the starting lineup, and there is no indication that this will change for the upcoming campaign.
However, at Chelsea, it probably wouldn’t be any different. Maresca already has a wide range of options for the left flank and number 10 position.
Even though Fermin played central midfield for Barcelona, he couldn’t unseat any of Chelsea’s top players.
