Dean Huijsen, a defender, will join Real Madrid at the end of the current campaign, according to Bournemouth.
Since moving from Juventus to Bournemouth last summer in a deal worth up to £15.3 million, Huijsen has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top young players.
The center-back has made 30 Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola’s team, and because of his play, he was given the opportunity to play for Spain in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal match against the Netherlands in March.
Many Premier League teams, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United, expressed interest in signing Huijsen as a result of his outstanding performances.
Real Madrid was clearly winning the race to sign the highly regarded defender, though, as it became evident in recent days.
After stating that he prefers a move to the Santiago Bernabeu over all other options, Huijsen had a medical with Real Madrid in London on Friday.
After Real Madrid triggered a £50 million release clause in Huijsen’s contract, Bournemouth has now confirmed that he will finalize his ideal transfer at the end of the current campaign.
The center-back, who joined the Cherries from Juventus last summer, has been crucial to the team’s record-breaking season, which has already seen Andoni Iraola’s team surpass their highest Premier League point total, according to a statement from Bournemouth.
In addition, theCherries stated: “Everyone at AFC Bournemouth is excited to work with Dean for thefinal two Premier League games before he embarks on the next step of his career.”
The defender will sign a five-year contract with Real Madrid this summer, the club confirmed in their own statement.
According to Los Blancos, Huijsen will be available for the Club World Cup in the USA as his contract will begin on June 1. On June 18, Real Madrid will play Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal to open the tournament. They will then play Pachuca of Mexico and Red Bull Salzburg of Austria to wrap up the group stage.
With the Spaniard most likely to take Carlo Ancelotti’s place in the Real Madrid dugout as he heads to Brazil, Xabi Alonso could be the team’s leader at this tournament.
Whether Los Blancos and Liverpool can agree to release Trent Alexander-Arnold early from his contract so he can play in the Club World Cup is still up in the air.
