As Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen continue to negotiate a club-record deal, Kylian Mbappe has acknowledged that he is a huge fan of Florian Wirtz. In an attempt to finalize a deal for Wirtz, the Reds made an enhanced offer on Friday that totaled £113 million.
As Germany competes in the Nations League finals, the 22-year-old is presently away on international duty. On Wednesday night, he gave them the lead in their semi-final match against Portugal before they lost 2-1.
As Wirtz gets ready to square off against Mbappe and company, Germany will now take on France in the third-place play-off today (Sunday, June 8).
The Real Madrid star also expressed his admiration for the attacking midfielder in response to Wirtz’s possible transfer to Liverpool.
“He is an exceptional talent, and I believe Germany is fortunate to have a player like him,” Mbappe remarked. “I like to watch him play, and I like him.”
It appears that he will relocate this summer. After that, we’ll see how he does and whether he can still get better. However, he is a very skilled player.
Mbappe, meanwhile, believes that Ousmane Dembele, a teammate of France, ought to take home this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Since Mbappe joined Real Madrid, Dembele has excelled for Paris Saint-Germain, and he was the team’s star player when they won the Champions League this season.
In 49 games across all competitions, the forward recorded 33 goals and 15 assists, including two during PSG’s 5-0 thumping of Inter Milan in the Champions League final. This helped PSG win the treble.
Mohamed Salah, an Egyptian who had a fantastic season for Liverpool as they won the Premier League, was the early favorite to win the prize.
The 32-year-old made 52 appearances for the Reds, returning 34 goals and 23 assists.
He was unable to assist Liverpool in their Champions League progress, though, as they lost to PSG in the round of 16 on penalties after Dembele tied the score with the lone goal in the second leg at Anfield.
Not surprisingly, Mbappe chose his international teammate over Salah when deciding who should win this season’s Ballon d’Or.
“Would I vote for Dembele? Yes,” he said. “Is there really any need to explain?
“We’re talking about (Lamine) Yamal and Dembele, I’m going for Dembele. It’s very clear!
“Things are evolving very quickly, as the last few winners have shown. We weren’t talking about certain players who ultimately won. Is it September?
“A lot will happen between now and then, but today we’re talking about Ousmane and Lamine. That’s why I responded.”
