It’s “easy” to be a pundit, Ruben Amorim said in response to Wayne Rooney’s claim that he is “naive” to say that winning the Premier League is his aim at Manchester United.
Amorim, who expressed disappointment at United’s FA Cup loss to Fulham on Sunday, stated that winning the championship is his top priority at Old Trafford.
According to Rooney, a BBC pundit, the claim was “naive,” but Amorim responded that it was “easy” for the former United striker to talk from the comfort of a television studio.
According to Amorim, “[The Premier League] is the goal,” “To believe that we will win this season or be the top contender the following season is to be naive. I am aware that everyone is aware of everything at this time. I was a pundit at the end of my career, so I know that and it’s very simple. I am aware of how simple it is.
“Winning the Premier League is our aim. It might not be with me. However, we want to do better and we are in a challenging time. As a club and as a board, we want to win the Premier League like we did in the past with all the great glories and legends of this club. And the reason I’m here, coaching Manchester United at forty, is because I’m not naive.”
Following a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Fulham eliminated United from the cup on penalties. Before Bruno Fernandes equalized in the second half, Calvin Bassey gave Fulham the lead just before halftime.
Bernd Leno and André Onana both had to make saves to force penalties. After blocking the shots from Joshua Zirkzee and Victor Lindelöf, Leno emerged victorious in the shootout.
United must now win the Europa League in order to salvage their season before Thursday’s first leg matchup with Real Sociedad in the round of sixteen in Spain.
