Salah’s claim to the prize is further supported by former Reds star Markus Babbel, who maintains that only a great Lionel Messi could match his skill.
With 28 goals and 19 assists in 36 games this season, Salah has broken pre-Christmas Premier League records.
Markus Babbel, a former Liverpool defender, told Wette.de, “I’ve only seen one player on Mohamed Salah’s level with a similar record, and that’s Lionel Messi.”
“His goal total suggests that he is a number nine, but in reality, he is a winger!
“He scores a lot of goals, but he’s not Ian Rush or Alan Shearer. It’s unreal.”
“It’s unbelievable that Salah has never placed among the top three. In his position, he is the world’s best player. He ought to win this year, if there is any justice in that,” Babbel continued.
