The Premier League has announced its 2024–2025 Player and Manager of the Season nominees.

Salah & Slot are up for the prize

Liverpool has, as expected, produced a large number of nominees after the Reds easily won the league title. After five years of dominance by Manchester City, who have no nominees following a dismal season, a new team will win the Player of the Season award.Four more clubs have candidates for the award.

Salah is up for the award

  • Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
  • Declan Rice (Arsenal)
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
  • Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
  • Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)
  • Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest)
  • Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)
  • Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)

This season, Nottingham Forest has emerged as unexpected European contenders, and midfield star Morgan Gibbs-White has been a key contributor to that success. A remarkable season for the 25-year-old, who has pushed his way into the England fold due to his outstanding performances, is summed up by rumors of transfer interest from Manchester City.

Ryan Gravenberch’s continued presence at Liverpool was questioned at the beginning of the season. It’s difficult to imagine the Reds without him now. Gravenberch was reimagined as Arne Slot’s deepest midfielder. Prior to Liverpool winning the league, he started every league game and even contributed with his fourth assist in the team’s decisive victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

As the shortlists were announced, Alexander Isak had scored 23 goals for Newcastle United. The Magpies are requesting an outrageous £150 million to release him because he currently ranks second in the division’s scoring charts and still appears capable of getting better the following season.

Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, who has also been linked to a big summer transfer, has enjoyed the increased responsibility that came with Ivan Toney’s departure last summer. The Frenchman, who can play as a winger or a striker, has already scored 18 goals and provided seven assists.

Declan Rice, a midfielder for Arsenal, is the only player nominated for Player of the Season. Rice has been a constant for Mikel Arteta’s team throughout the Gunners’ inconsistent campaign, contributing a creative element to his game to complement his outstanding defensive play and becoming a true on-field leader in the process.

The front-runner for the prize is probably Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has set numerous records with his 28 goals and 18 assists during an absolutely outstanding individual campaign. This Premier League season has been one of the greatest ever, and Salah accomplished it all while ignoring the commotion caused by the rumors about his future at Liverpool.

This award was given to Liverpool’s talismanic Virgil van Dijk, who won it in 2018–19 and has steadily recovered to his pre-injury level under Slot. The Dutch defender inspired a memorable campaign by dismissing all off-field drama, just like Salah did.

Forest has risen through the Premier League standings thanks to Chris Wood’s 20 goals, which have come at an alarmingly high rate. Even though he turns 34 later this year, he is arguably playing his best football to date.

Premier League Manager of the Season nominees – 2024/2025

  • Nuno Espirito Santo (Nottingham Forest)
  • Vitor Pereira (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
  • Thomas Frank (Brentford)
  • Eddie Howe (Newcastle United)
  • Arne Slot (Liverpool)

A year ago, many were worried about Brentford’s Premier League future, but they are on track to have their best-ever season finale. A free-scoring team led by Thomas Frank has shown that they can hang with anyone on their day.

The dizzying heights of second place in the Premier League have not been experienced by Newcastle since 1997. Eddie Howe is aiming to secure a runners-up position after orchestrating victories over several of England’s best players, instead of merely aiming for Champions League qualification.

It is not surprising that Nuno Espirito Santo is in the running for the managerial award given that two of his players were on the initial shortlist. By the middle of the season, the Forest manager had destroyed preseason expectations and his team was no longer considered a serious contender for the championship. Nuno’s team is now fighting for a spot in Europe, which they deserve.

Only in December, when Wolverhampton Wanderers was in 19th place and facing relegation, did Vitor Pereira join the team. Following a run of ten victories in 20 games as manager, Pereira swiftly became a Molineux favorite, allaying fears of the drop.

The unenviable task of taking Jurgen Klopp’s place in the Liverpool dugout has been accepted by Arne Slot. Instead of managing a season marked by change, the Dutchman has easily won the Premier League title, scoring more goals than any other team and suffering just two defeats before their victory was assured.
