Man United 'given major boost' as Barca 'signal willingness' to let midfield star leave

According to reports, Barcelona is open to allowing Fermin Lopez to leave Camp Nou during the summer transfer window.

Throughout the 2024–25 season, the 21-year-old has been a mainstay for the Catalan powerhouses, making 30 appearances across all competitions while tallying five goals and six assists.

Although Fermin’s current contract with Barcelona expires in June 2029, he signed a new one last October. Earlier this year, Manchester United was rumored to be interested in his services.

According to reports, the Red Devils expressed interest in the Spain international by contacting Barcelona in January.

Hansi Flick’s team made it clear that Fermin was not for sale, despite the 20-time English champions reportedly telling the La Liga powerhouses that they would be willing to pay €70 million (£58.5 million) for him.

This summer, Barcelona is “willing to sell” Fermin.
Relevo claims that things have now changed and that Barcelona is thinking of allowing Fermin to leave for the right price.

After a successful loan stint at Linares in 2022–2023 and joining Barcelona in 2016, Fermin made his breakthrough into the first team during the 2023–24 season.

The attacker has made 72 appearances for his Catalan team overall, tallying 16 goals and serving seven assists. He has also received two caps for Spain and will be keen to earn a spot in La Roja’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Could Fermin pique Man United’s interest again?
For Barcelona, Fermin has proven himself in a variety of positions, and while his adaptability has been invaluable, it has also worked against him in terms of obtaining a consistent starting position.

This season, the Spaniard has played his best football from number ten, and he would be ideal in one of the positions behind the center-forward in Man United’s 3-3-4-3 system under Ruben Amorim.

Fermin’s output and energy make him ideal for the Premier League, and given his age and the fact that the Red Devils won’t have to spend a fortune to acquire him, he could be a very wise addition to Man United.

Fermin has a spot in the front three because Bruno Fernandes has been playing well lately in a deeper midfield position and Alejandro Garnacho is being strongly linked to leaving.

However, Man United is unlikely to have a clear run at the attacker during this summer’s transfer window, and reports of Barcelona’s purported willingness to sell will undoubtedly increase interest.
