Transfer rumors: Liverpool “holds first negotiations” about a successor for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool have allegedly held initial negotiations over a prospective transfer for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong.

The Reds are expected to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold’sservicesthis summer after it just surfaced that he has accepted a deal to join Real Madrid this summer.

The England international has decided it is time to try a fresh challenge instead of extending his stay at his boyhood club.

As a result, Alexander-Arnold is largely likely to join the reigning European champions after his current Liverpool term ends at the end of June.

Liverpool academy product Conor Bradley will hope to receive the chance to make his claim to be Alexander-Arnold’s long-term replacement.

To compete with Bradley for a starting spot in Arne Slot’s squad, the Reds will still be eager to explore the transfer market for a right-back.

Frimpong is reportedly being considered by Liverpool as a possible Alexander-Arnold replacement before the 2025–2026 campaign begins.

According to a recent report, the Premier League leaders are now in the lead to sign the Netherlands international.

Liverpool has reportedly held preliminary discussions regarding the possible signing of Frimpong from Leverkusen, according to the PA news agency, as reported by The Independent.

Despite the Reds’ admiration for the Manchester City academy product, the report asserts that talks are still in their early stages.

Why is Frimpong a target for Liverpool?
Several clubs, including Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United, and Man City, may compete with Liverpool.

Frimpong could be a wise addition for the summer transfer window because, like Alexander-Arnold, he likes to contribute to his team’s offensive play.

For Leverkusen, the Dutchman typically plays on the right side of a midfield four, where he has contributed four goals and eleven assists in 40 games.

Liverpool will prefer that Frimpong play on the right side of Slot’s back four rather than as a wing-back.

As the 24-year-old’sLeverkusencontract includes a €40 million (£33.4 million) release clause, the Merseyside club will be fully aware of this.
