Amad Diallo’s late goal earned Manchester United a deserved point as they defied recent form to draw 2-2 against leaders Liverpool in a thriller at Anfield.
Lisandro Martinez had given United the lead in the second half, but Cody Gakpo’s equalizer and a penalty kick from Mohamed Salah gave the impression that Arne Slot’s team had won the match, putting them eight points ahead of the opposition at the top of the Premier League.
To the delight of the away fans, however, Amad swept home and secured a result that puts Ruben Amorim’s United team above West Ham and into 13th place.
In the closing seconds, Harry Maguire had a chance to win it for the visitors, but he missed the crossbar with his attempt.
Trent wasn’t impressive in the game
With one game remaining, Liverpool leads Arsenal by six points, but this was a lackluster and mistake-filled start to 2025. Even though Ibrahima Konate, who was returning, had a rough afternoon, Trent Alexander-Arnold was far worse.
Losing possession and his man was the Liverpool right-back’sfaultfor United’s first goal, but it was only one aspect of a worrying display. His defending was problematic throughout, and Alexander-Arnold’sdistributionwas uncharacteristically poor.
He was booked late in the game and replaced by Conor Bradley, who performed better in his short time there than Alexander-Arnold, a Real Madrid transfer target, had throughout the game.
