Liverpool youngster agrees 'long-term deal' ahead of Ajax loan switch

James McConnell, a young player from Liverpool, is reportedly set to sign a loan deal with Ajax for the 2025–2026 campaign.

After graduating from the club’s youth academy, the 20-year-old made his senior debut in his final season under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Despite missing the preseason tour of Asia because of an injury, McConnell has played four times under Arne Slot, including against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Because Heitinga is familiar with Slot’s approach, Liverpool can be sure the child is in capable hands.

Additionally, Ajax can provide McConnell with regular playing time and exposure to Europe, both of which would greatly aid in his development.

Harvey Elliott wants to move away to play regularly, so Liverpool may try to offload him in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Before the window closes, the Reds may add one or two more players, including Rodrygo, Alexander Isak, and
