Newcastle learn Strand Larsen transfer stance after Wolves ‘reject £50m bid’

According to reports, Newcastle United’s attempt to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for £50 million was unsuccessful.

Due to Callum Wilson’s departure and the continued uncertainty surrounding the future of Alexander Isak, a wanted star, Eddie Howe’s team is frantically attempting to acquire at least one new center-forward before the summer transfer window closes.

Isak has been pressing to leave St James’ Park since learning of interest from Premier League champions Liverpool, while Wilson left at the end of June when his contract expired and joined West Ham United on a free transfer.

Strand Larsen is considered an important first-team player and Wolves believe that they will not have enough time to find a replacement who will be ready to play in the Premier League before the September 1 deadline.

The 6ft 4in striker joined Wolves on an initial season-long loan from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2024, before his move to Molineux was made permanent for a reported £23m in July.

Strand Larsen has reportedly expressed interest in joining Newcastle, who will compete in the Champions League this season. However, the striker is reportedly not pressing to leave Wolves, where he has a contract that expires in June 2029.

Although there are currently no club-to-club talks, it is reported that Newcastle felt they had fruitful discussions behind the scenes to sign Strand Larsen.

Following the departure of two important players from the previous season, Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, this summer, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira declined to rule out the possibility of Strand Larsen leaving the team before the deadline.

According to Pereira, “[Strand Larsen] is a very important player for us,” reporters said. “I haven’t discussed [transfer rumors] with him. He is dedicated to the group. He is dedicated, as I can see when I watch him train. He is a fighter who enjoys winning.

Pereira responded, “I don’t know,” when asked if Wolves could afford to lose another important player. The market is the market. Players are free to enter and exit if the window is open. I think this is feasible.

Despite scoring 14 Premier League goals in his first season at Wolves, Strand Larsen has failed to score in two games this season, as the Old Gold lost 4-0 at home to Manchester.

Although the Bees have already turned down an offer of about £40 million, Newcastle may now need to focus on other targets. Yoane Wissa of Brentford is reportedly high on their wishlist.

Negotiations to sign Wissa with Brentford have reportedly been “complex,” according to The Athletic, and the Magpies have also talked about Samu Aghehowa of Porto.
