Before the summer transfer window closes, Real Madrid is reportedly open to offers for David Alaba.
After joining Los Blancos in 2021, the Austrian has made 116 appearances for the capital powerhouses across all competitions, scoring five goals during that time.
Alaba played a key role in the Spanish capital’s first two seasons, but he has suffered from injuries in the past two years, appearing in just 31 games since the 2022–2023 season ended.
According to Fichajes, the club is seriously considering selling the 33-year-old before the current market ends because his contract at the Bernabeu is set to expire next summer.
According to the report, new head coach Xabi Alonso has brought in Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth during this summer’s transfer window, and Alaba is not part of his long-term plans.
Although the Saudi Pro League is rumored to be interested in Alaba, it is unclear if he is willing to leave European football at this point in his career.
Huijsen and Eder Militao played in the middle of the defense in Real Madrid’s opening La Liga game against Osasuna, and the Austrian was not used as a substitute.
Alaba will move further down the hierarchy at the Bernabeu when Antonio Rudiger returns from his suspension and is included in the squad for Sunday’s match against Real Oviedo.
Alaba reportedly earns over £370,000 a week, which puts him second only to Kylian Mbappe as the highest paid player at Real Madrid.
Alaba missed the end of the previous season due to another knee issue after missing 384 days from December 2023 to January 2025 due to a serious knee injury.
It wouldn’t be shocking to see the defender stay at the Bernabeu now that he is fully recovered, but clubs will be hesitant to sign him on high salaries given his injury issues.
He could still make a profitable move to the division after the September 1 deadline, though, as the Saudi Pro League summer transfer window is open until September 10.
