After dropping in the hierarchy under Arne Slot the previous season, the Uruguayan international has been strongly linked to leaving Anfield this summer.
Nunez, 26, only started one of Liverpool’s last 22 Premier League games, a 3-1 triumph over Southampton in March. Slot instead selected Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz to lead his team’s attack.
But it appears that there is a lot of interest in Nunez, especially from the Middle East, as a number of Saudi Pro League teams are reportedly interested in signing the former Benfica player.
Paul Joyce writes in The Times that the Asia Champions League winners, Al-Ahli, are the most recent team to “consider” a bid for Nunez, who initially cost Liverpool £64 million when he arrived from Benfica three years ago.
In recent years, Al-Ahli, one of four teams owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, has been among the most aggressive Saudi Pro League clubs in the market, acquiring former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez, and Allan Saint-Maximin.
However, Firmino, who left Liverpool in 2023 to relocate to the Middle East, left the team last week to sign with Al Sadd SC of Qatar.
This implies that Nunez might end up taking the place of his former Anfield teammate if he decides to join Al Ahli.
