
Details regarding the untimely death of Liverpool football player Diogo Jota have been verified by Spanish police. The terrible news of the Reds forward’s death in a car accident broke this morning. According to reports, the incident happened while the 28-year-old was traveling in the Zamora region of Sanabria with his brother, Andre Silva.
After the car caught fire, firefighters arrived at the scene on the A52, also known as the Palacios de Sanabria, according to the provincial council of Zamora. According to Zamora News, the car was traveling toward the neighboring town of Benavente when emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene just before one in the morning on Thursday.
The Guardia Civil confirmed Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva’s deaths in an interview with BBC News this morning.
“The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking,” the BBC reported the police officer’s remarks.
“It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora.
“The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed.”
Following the startling announcement of the Reds striker’s passing this morning, condolences are pouring in.
Jamie Carragher, a former defender for Liverpool, wrote on Instagram: “I’m heartbroken by the tragic news regarding Diogo Jota.
“His wife Rute and their three children are in our thoughts.”
Gary Neville, a former Manchester United defender, stated: “The news regarding Diogo Jota and his brother is devastating. I send my warmest regards and love to his family.
In a statement, FC Porto, with whom Jota had a year-long loan from 2016 to 2017, said: “FC Porto is in mourning.”
“It is with shock and deep sorrow that we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth ranks.
Liverpool FC released a statement following Diogo Jota’s passing.

“Liverpool Football Club is devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” read a statement posted on the team’s website.
“The club has been notified that the 28-year-old and his brother, Andre, died in a traffic accident in Spain. As they attempt to cope with an unfathomable loss, Liverpool FC will not be commenting further at this time and asks that the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s friends, family, teammates, and club employees be respected.
“We’re going to keep giving them our whole support.”
