Cody Gakpo, a forward for Liverpool, is reportedly still a target for Bayern Munich this summer.
Since joining Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, Gakpo has made 129 appearances, tallying 41 goals and dishing out 17 assists.
Despite not being a sure starter the previous season, the 26-year-old helped Liverpool win their 20th Premier League title by finishing the season with 18 goals and seven assists in 49 competitive games, including 15 goal contributions in 35 league appearances.
It seems unclear, though, if Gakpo will remain with Arne Slots for their Premier League title defense the following season.
Bayern was said to have identified Gakpo as a possible target for their summer transfer business last month.
Earlier this month, the Netherlands international acknowledged that he was unaware of the Bundesliga champions’ interest.
Journalist Florian Plettenburg claims that Bayern is still interested in the Liverpool winger because they see him as a substitute for Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona is in a strong position to sign the Spain international, so the German champions are concerned that they might have to concentrate on other targets.
According to the update, Gakpo is among the players Bayern is “keeping contact” with in an attempt to replace Leroy Sane with a winger.
When his Bayern contract expires at the end of the month, the former Manchester City player will formally join Galatasaray on a free transfer.
Vincent Kompany’s team is reportedly considering three other players in addition to Gakpo as potential targets for Williams.
Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain is a target for the Bavarians, but the Champions League winners are hesitant to approve a deal.
They have also added Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton & Hove Albion and Rafael Leao of AC Milan to their attacking shortlist.
